Buying Tips

The C330S ("Super") is the final and most refined Mamiya C-series body. Here is what to check.

  • Bellows: Even on the newest C-series bodies, bellows deterioration is the primary concern. Use a flashlight inside the bellows in a dark room and inspect every fold. The C330S bellows tend to be in better shape than older models simply due to age, but always verify.
  • Same checks as C330f: Test the safety interlock (prevents double exposures), the focus lock lever, and the film door seal. All the same mechanical points apply as on the C330f.
  • Most reliable of the series: The C330S benefits from decades of refinement. Mechanical tolerances are tighter and build quality is the best in the C-series. If buying into the Mamiya system for actual use, this is the most trouble-free body to start with.
  • Higher demand and prices: As the last and best C-series body, the C330S commands the highest prices. Be cautious of sellers pricing average-condition units at excellent-condition prices. Check completed eBay listings for realistic market values.
  • Lens system: All C-series lenses from 55mm to 250mm are compatible. A body without a lens is not usable. The 80mm f/2.8 is the standard starting lens and the most commonly available.
  • New to Mamiya TLRs: If you are buying your first Mamiya C-series camera and want to shoot rather than collect, the C330S is the best starting point. Newer production means better condition on average, and the refined mechanics make it the most pleasant to use.
